Where Pub Classics Meet Creativity at The White Horse, Baston

Life in the kitchen at The White Horse Baston is all about energy, creativity, and a real sense of teamwork. Behind the kitchen doors, every service brings something new, from exciting, themed evenings to well-loved pub classics that keep guests coming back time and time again. We had a chat with our Head Chef, Corneliu, about life in the kitchen, favourite dishes, what inspires the menu, and what’s coming next for the pub.

What’s your favourite dish from the La Dolce Vita Diner Club Menu?

My favourite dish is the Fresh Focaccia. I love how it smells when it comes out of the oven, it’s warm, crunchy, aromatic, and the taste is incredible. I honestly enjoy the whole menu because it is something I’ve created myself.

What are you most looking forward to cooking this summer?

I’m really looking forward to the themed menus we’re developing for Thursday evenings. I want each one to feel like a small culinary journey around the world.

What do you love about working here at White Horse Baston?

What I love most about working at The White Horse Baston is the team. We have a young, energetic group, and we really complement each other well in the kitchen and front of house. There’s a good spirit of collaboration, and everyone is willing to help and learn.

I also really appreciate the fact that I have the freedom to express my personality through the menu. I can bring my own ideas, influences, and creativity into the dishes, whilst still working within a strong and supportive structure.

That balance, between teamwork and creative freedom makes it a great place for me to grow both as a chef and as part of the team.

What’s the most popular dish you serve?

I think our most popular dish is the classic fish and chips. It’s always a favourite with guests. Alongside that, our burgers are also quite popular.  Another dish that stands out is the fish cake, which many customers enjoy as well. Of course, popularity can vary from week to week depending on season, specials, and what people are in the mood for.

What’s next for the pub?

Right now, it’s more about continuing to do what we already do well, keeping standards high, and making sure customers have a great experience every time they visit The White Horse Baston.
